Mac Mini Review

An energy efficient desktop computer, the Mac Mini review is thumbs up for cost and quality. The design resulted in an uncommonly small and compact desktop computer. It is quintessential Macintosh. Mac continues to strive for and maintain simplicity, qualities evident in this small, quality piece of hardware. The mini Mac allows the company to stick to its reputation for offering quality products at a reasonable price. This cheapest mac, mini does not sacrifice quality.

Small, Green and Mean

It small size allows for retail packaging that is 31 percent smaller than its previous generation. And the volume of the shipping box, as compared to the first gen Mac mini, decreased by 60 percent. The Mac OS X integrates seamlessly with the energy-efficient hardware components. This results in a system that adjusts power consumption and reduces the overall energy used. The new Mac mini uses an advanced power management system that was leveraged from battery life technology discovered in the MacBook. This allows the Mini to use 45 percent less energy. In idle, it uses less than 13 watts.  

Don't let its compact size fool you. The 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo allows for fast processing. Plenty of power to compete with PC's.

One drawback is that it there is no Mac Mini memory upgrade available. Still, the quality and price of this machine has ensured its success. It was originally designed to be upgraded. And was decided against when a Mac Mini review from customers did not warrant the extra expense for this capability.

Look Ma, No Peripherals 

The Mini is designed to be used with your own monitor, keyboard and mouse. Or you can purchase your own componenets when you purchase the unit and they will be shipped separately. Initially not expecting much, users were pleasantly surprised. Truth be told, it looks like a box with an optical disk drive. This simplicity made it easily produced in a challenging profit environment and it competes well with IBM compatible computers.
