So, You Want to Download

Internet Explorer for Mac?

Why?

With so many better options out now, I don't know of any good reason to download internet explorer for Mac. Unless you want to see how your website appears, I cannot find another use for Microsoft Internet Explorer for Mac.

Microsoft ended support for the Mac version of their browser on December 31st, 2005. It does not provide any security or performance updates.

The last version (IE 5.2.3) enhanced browser compatibility for network users using proxy servers or secure authentication. It also came with the latest security and performance enhancements for IE5 for Mac OS X.

Macs use to come with Internet Explorer Mac version. It felt (and behaved) like a foreign application. If you'd like to see what you're not missing, you will discover a complicated and clunky design, slow performance and without today's necessary security settings. Oh, it also crashes a lot.

Look Ma, No Tabs

Internet Explorer for Macintosh comes without modern features you would expect to see in today's browsers such as:

  • extensions
  • private data management
  • saved sessions
  • tabs

Even back in the day, it was not a great browser. Using it now feels especially archaic.

Still want to download IE for Mac? You will need:

  • Mac OS X version 10.1.5 or later
  • Apple QuickTime version 5.0.2 or later

Download

But, If you are looking for a good browser, try one of these instead:

  • Camino
  • Firefox
  • Flock
  • Opera
  • Safari
